The Tragic Role of Debt In L'Wren Scott's Passing

As bankruptcy attorneys and debt lawyers we have received several emails about the recent suicide of L'Wren Scott, a talented fashion designer with an international reputation.

Scott's list of celebrity clients included such stars as Nicole Kidman, Sarah Jessica Parker, Ellen Barkin, and Julianne Moore. Her work and her life have been featured in major newspapers and magazines including Harper's Bazaar, The New York Times, Vogue, WWD, The Hollywood Reporter, Glamour, Oprah Magazine, Madame Figaro, Vanity Fair, W, InStyle and Town & Country. She was truly a driving force in the fashion hubs of New York, London, Paris and Milan.

It's been widely reported that her long-time boyfriend was Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger.

Recent reports have indicated that Scott was heavily in debt; one report said she owed 6 million dollars and had suffered some business set-backs.

Debt can certainly be troubling, anxiety-provoking and depressing. But the intimation that it was a factor in L'Wren Scott's death adds another layer to this tragic story.

As bankruptcy lawyers we work with people and businesses suffering from financial problems. We always counsel our clients not to take these situations personally, to try to keep a "mental" distance and to focus on assisting us to prepare the best bankruptcy petition possible for the court. It's important to remember that many great Americans have filed bankruptcy – famous scientists, business leaders, athletes and celebrities. A bankruptcy filing allowed them to wipe out debt, get a fresh start and led to great things.

While the bankruptcy solution is readily available, do not to delay and let the stress continue to mount. It is important that you call us immediately if you find yourself in a position where you believe that your indebtedness is causing you more anxiety than you think you can handle. Do not let things spiral out-of-control, but, if they have, we are ready to help you to get back on the right financial track.
